The Fair

Piglets
Note: This was supposed to be under the " Our Adventures" tab, but I can't seem to figure out how to get it there.

We took a field trip to the LA fair on Friday, and had a very nice time with the animals and the science exhibits. We also had a nice time with the roasted corn and cotton candy! :)
We learned, among other things, that in days of old, it was the women's job to shear the sheep (oh joy). Today, commercial sheep shearers can shear 150-200 sheep per day. Colored wool brings in less money at market than white wool (for obvious reasons), and wool is in several things you'd never think of--like tennis balls.

Baaaaa-ing :P

Lightning had to get in on the fun.

Baby chicks

Who's hungry?

Everyone, apparently. :)

I was afraid they were going to bite her little fingers, but she was good about keeping her hand flat.
"Mama! He licked me!!"

Taz liked petting the animals.

She really liked the cow.

Being mugged by a very persistent goat. :)

Making hay bales using an apparatus that was sold in the Sears catalog in 1897.

Grinding corn.

After this and the hay baling, Cub decided that maybe using the gas powered mower and wiping down his bathroom weren't such bad chores after all. :P

The sun was so bright that Taz had to borrow Cub's hat for the picture. :)

Playing with pulleys and levers.

Lightning wasn't strong enough to make the lever work. :P
Goofy boy. :)

Plasma ball

Will it float or sink?

Really big Taz

Lots of Taz's. Now there's an exhausting thought. Giggle.

Microscopic images

Learning about giant leaves in the rain forest.

Hope this isn't prophetic. :P

  1. Did you take advantage of the free school days for LA county fair? We went a couple weeks ago. We are in Tustin, so not too far a darive. The drive was easy! Fun pics!

  2. Kristin, we just moved to CA in May. I had to Google map Tustin to see where you are. :) We are part of a homeschool band in Garden Grove on Tuesdays, so not too far from you. There's also a Co-op down that way, if you're ever interested (you may have already known that, though). :)
