A Few Changes

We started our day today with a little music. :) Cub played a saxaphone accompaniment to Taz's rendition of Old MacDonald. There were pigs, cats, cows, Muddy (our dog), and Diesel (from Thomas the Train). Yep, that's my Taz. :)

One of Crawdad's assignments in Bigger today was to record a few facts about Benjamin West on a notebooking page shaped like a paint pallet. He colored in the paint spots, but they didn't show up very well in the pic, unfortunately.

This was pretty much how Cub looked all day. Today was heavy on reading and light on activities. He did do some writing in grammar, lit, and science. And of course in math. But who wants to see pics of MATH, he asks. :P

And there was a little map work.

Taz and I are working, with lots of prayer and a bit of trial and error, to find the right curriculum fit for her. We have been trying Pathways to Preschool by BJU, but out of the 15 boxes on the page (the assignments are broken up into boxes like HOD, which is one of the things that drew me to Pathways, I must admit. I do love those boxes. :)), only 2-4 of them are new information to her. She already knows her letters and most of their sounds, her numbers to 12, shapes, colors, concepts like big/little, up/down. However, because of her language delays, other areas are more challenging for her. She can't sit through longer stories yet. She's just now ready to understand that there are girl chickens called hens, and they lay eggs. She knows fireman put out fires, but the concept of a nurse or postal worker is lost on her just yet. Such is our predicament, then. What to use with her that has lower level science/community sections, but higher level math and phonics. Hmmm. Our solution currently is just to use the BJU boxes that she needs--mostly the "Let's Create" and "Let's Discuss" ones--and to replace the math and phonics assignments with Sonlight LA K and Singapore Earlybird math. Today was the first day of this new plan, and it went well. Above, she is making a Letter F page for SL LA K. She also did three lessons in Earlybird math (I expect that to slow. Today's lessons were just on matching). She's continuing to do the Abeka preK workbooks and art book just because she loves them, and it helps keep her busy while I school the boys. :)

She colored Barnabus the Cat because she likes him. :)

And made a collage of tissue paper.

And just felt a wee bit silly. :)
