I did let him off the hook for one of his English assignments, though. He was supposed to conduct and write up an interview, but since we did that last year (and the kid isn't planning on being a reporter when he grows up), I didn't see a point in repeating the exercise. I think he was pretty happy with me. :P
We put up another "thankful" poster. We'll add to it as the month progresses.
Just schoolin'. Cub is reading a history book, while Crawdad does a reading comprehension worksheet.
Right, Crawdad helps Taz with a new computer game she's been playing. Note the bunny ears. It's her new thing. She does make a cute rabbit, if I do say so myself (although, I pointed out to her that Cub's rabbit, Lopsy, does NOT actually hop NONSTOP at all times every single second of the day. Bunnies can be still. Really. They can. :P). Below, Taz-bunny plays chef with my pans and her plastic food.
Crawdad doing timeline work. Note the antenna. We didn't have any more bunny ears, so he joined in on the fun with his little sister by being a bug. :P
Crazy hat night at AWANA. He tied for second place. :)
Left, Taz finishes up Unit 4 of Singapore Earlybird Math Book A. Below, she and I are playing a board game that practices counting, adding, and subtracting. Notice the ears? Giggle.
Crawdad took 2 math quizzes this week, one in MUS Epsilon and one on Horizon's Math 5, units 1-8.
Every week, we pick a verse or two as our focus for the week. I had been just writing them down in my binder and reviewing them occasionally, but a friend recently showed me this scripture memorization system from Simply Charlotte Mason:
http://simplycharlottemason.com/timesavers/memorysys/
I got the bright idea to add other things we needed to review (like grammar concepts) to the sections, and so far, it's working out nicely. :)
Above, Cub's RTR pages for this week. Below, his RTR notebooking pages for the last two weeks. Notice anything missing? Yeah, he skipped the research section. He actually had permission in both cases, but he was supposed to go back and do them later in the week. Lesson learned. Putting off an unpleasant task only makes it harder to go back and do it later.
Early Egg Hunt
Right, Crawdad fills the eggs with jelly beans. It's tradition at our house to use jelly beans to remind us of the Resurrection Story. We use this poem:
Red is for the blood He gave.
Green is for the grass He made.
Yellow is for the sunflowers so bright.
Black is for the dark of night.
White is for the grace He gave.
Orange is for the sun He made.
Purple is for the hours of sorrow.
Pink is for our new tomorrow.
A bag full of jelly beans,
colorful and sweet.
It's a prayer, a promise,
and a child's treat.
We also left one egg empty, like the tomb. Crawdad found that one. :)
Papa Bear helps Crawdad rescue an egg Cub hid up in a tree.
And because he isn't that old just yet (a fact which makes his mama smile :)), Papa Bear hid a few eggs in the front yard, just for Cub to find. :)
