Hawaii Part 2

More Black Sand Beach, White Sand Beach, random pool pics, the Luau, and our last day. :)

The root system on these trees fascinated me. So much of the roots are above ground.

This is a mongoose. They were EVERYWHERE, sort of like squirrels are around here. There were also TONS of stray cats. It was funny; at one point we saw a whole herd of stray cats eating food someone had set out in a parking lot for them, and these little guys were right there eating with them.

This little bird is stealing my french fries. I was hungry, too, so he's lucky he was cute! Giggle.

Napping in the sun :)

The hotel had a traditional Hawaiian Luau Wednesday night. It was fun to see the dancers, and watch the fire show. They even cooked a pig in the traditional way by wrapping it in banana leaves and burying it in the ground. They let us watch them dig it up, which was a neat experience.....until its head FELL OFF. Crawdad and I both opted for the pasta after that.
Taz learning to hula :)

Sunset

Cub said it was like the Hawaiian version of flan. :P

None of the pics of the dancers came out well. It was dark, and they were moving just way too fast. :)

Crawdad and her daddy mimic the dancers on stage. :)

We went back and spent an afternoon at the Black Sand Beach. The sand is extremely coarse and actually pretty sharp. It was gorgeous, though. :)

Taz liked to "squash" the waves, so we held hands while she jumped into each one. :)

The next day, we went to the opposite end of the spectrum and hit the white sands at Hapuna Beach. The sand wasn't exactly white, but it was very light and so fine it was almost powdery. The water was beautiful and great for swimming.
It was good for snorkeling, too.

Look, it's a beached cub. :P

Papa Bear made what we all decided was a Dr. Seues house. :)

And then the waves came in and washed it all away.
Just a beach we drove past

These flowers lined the walk from the main hotel to the pool. The boys and I decided they looked like something out of "Land of the Lost."  Crawdad was convinced one was going to lean over and eat him. :P

This is the "graffiti" I mentioned in Part 1. It lined the road all the way from the airport to the hotel.

Our contribution. :)

It's a sea turtle with a cross on its back. :)
