Cub's first day....

....started with a lap full of baaaing Taz. :P

She's currently into sheep (thus the baaaing above :P) and was very proud of her drawing to the right. She actually tried several times before her fluffy friend looked just the way she wanted him to.
Cub's day this year looks a little differently as we are using Sonlight instead of Heart of Dakota (only for a year--we do love HOD!). He's just really wanted to do Sonlight's church history core, and this was a great year to fit it in.

More sheep theme (left). She's running on her hands and feet down the hall in order to pick up "sheep food" at the other end. She had 7 pieces to bring back to me before we started school. She loves this game, and it settles her down nicely to do some seatwork. :)

Oh yeah, he's got it rough, doesn't he? Giggle.

Above, Taz reads to her astounded older brother. He didn't know she could do that. :) Right is the page she was reading. I'm pretty impressed myself. That's one smart girly, my Taz.
Working puzzles

Ice cream and The Story of Christianity

Yeah, he's just as thrilled with math as he ever was.

We had fun with the quiz he's taking above. We are doing Summit Ministries Lightbearers Worldview course this school year, and today we read the prep section and took the pretest. I printed two copies so we could take the quiz together. Cub thought some questions were just downright silly, like the  true/false question "If it feels good, do it" (because we should always do what feels good instead of what we know to be right, he says, rolling his eyes. Good head on his shoulders, that boy. :)). We also had a couple of good discussions sparked by questions about civil disobedience and ungodly authority figures. I think this class is going to be a really neat time for us this year. :)

Then he headed to Karate in the afternoon (left).

It was 105 when I went to pick Crawdad up from Karate camp. I think the dog melted.

She's just so stinkin' cute. :)

And at the end of the day, Mom made chicken and dumplings, one of his favorites. All in all, we both thought it was a pretty good start to the new school year. :)  (If only he could convince me to drop his writing class..... :P)

  1. Happy 1st day, Cub!
I love your line-up for him. That Summit course sounds SO good - I will definitely have to put that into a file to remember for future years.

And your 'little lamb' is adorable. ;-)
