Week Ending

Not exactly just the weekend, as there's some last day of school in here, too. Eventually, I hope to get back to doing a "Week in Review" post, but for now, we're doing good to navigate our way through new curricula and a new schedule. I know that the boys did grammar, writing (Cub), poetry (Crawdad), Bible, and math every day. It took me until Thursday to locate a glue gun, so our main science slipped this week, although Cub did still read in his Archeology supplement book and Crawdad did some Astronomy. Taz did phonics and math and various and sundry Kindergartenesque activities.

This is Cub doing what he calls "The Awesome Dance" because he managed a 100% on a math sheet. :P

Cooling off after school :)

To the right is a picture that makes my heart smile. Crawdad has really struggled with learning to read, and thus has never read by choice for leisure (as it's not all that enjoyable for him). This week, something just clicked, and I literally had to make him stop reading in order to do the rest of his school work. He's spent the entire weekend with his nose stuck in a book. I couldn't be happier. :)

Below, my oldest son is being a goof. :P I commented to him as I was posting my last blog entry that documenting his school this year wasn't quite as interesting because Sonlight, while filled with wonderful and informative books, does not have HOD's fabulous notebook pages. Which means that really, all I get are pics of him sitting in that same spot reading. Like a well-read plant of some sort. Giggle. So he decided he'd spice things up by wearing random things on his head. Alrighty then, Son. :P

Seat work

Writing letters by sound

Working in Developing the Early Learner book 2. She loves this series!

I couldn't resist snapping  another pic when he picked up his book again between subjects later. :)

Nice hat :P

The boys had belt tests this week. They both did a fantastic job! Below, I managed to catch a nice picture of Crawdad in mid-Form. He likes the fact that his foot is blurry--he says that means his kick was moving fast. :P I could not, however, seem to get a good one of Cub. The one to the right is the best of the bunch. I caught him catching a decent amount of air before a kick, at least. :)

She's being Bubba (her name for Cub). He got up to get a drink, and she swiped his spot and his book. Silly girl. :P Think she's getting much out of The 100 Most Important Events in Christian History?

On Friday, we wrapped our school day up by 11am and headed to the beach. We had a great time. :)

Snagging a snack. I love the palm trees in the background. :)

Cub's favorite beach activity is boogie boarding.

He even taught me. :P

Lunchables are her favorite beach food.

He washed right up to my feet. :P

Crawdad loves building, and subsequently destroying, sand castles.

Some uninvited guests stopped by to polish off Taz's crackers.

With Papa Bear out of town, Cub took it upon himself to grill for us on Saturday. :)

Aaaand then he had to move the whole process inside when the grill ran out of gas.

It was OK, though. The food was still enjoyed by all. :)

We ended the weekend by cleaning out the pool and making sure it was ready for the 100+ temperatures that are predicted for the coming week. Oh, and Crawdad finished his book. :)

  1. Looks like an awesome week! Oh your pics of the beach make me so homesick for SD. I told Paul that we HAVE to go back there....maybe for our 20th anniversary. Sigh...
