Week in Review

This week Taz did some fancy footwork--or some colorful footwork--anyway. :P We started the project with me painting her feet and then helping her stand on the paper.

And then she got brave and decided to paint her own feet and dance around on the paper. We didn't have very clear footprints (on the paper--we had some great ones on the floor :P) by the time we were done, but she did have lots of fun. :)

Wednesday was super busy. Taz and I went to OT while the boys did independent work, then I made cupcakes for Cub to take to AWANA as a belated birthday snack. We also had to accomplish all of our schoolwork and pick up Crawdad's french horn from the repair shop. The boys helped the cupcake making process by doing school with their sister while I baked. Below, Crawdad and Taz do math. I missed a photo op of Cub playing teacher--he did phonics with her. And I'm happy to report that the cupcakes (in all their Longhorn decorated glory) were very well received by Cub's Trek class. :)

My camera was crabby today, and all the pics came out dark for some reason. Grr. Left, Taz learns about "magic e." She's using her magic e to change words like "cap" into "cape."  She also learned about the sin of pride and boastfulness from Reddy Fox, recited Matthew 19:14, discovered that kangaroos have pouches for their babies, and did about 10 pages in her Abeka K math book, among other things.

Mudd Puddle sings along with Scottish Ballad as Cub accompanies him on the saxophone. :P
Crawdad's Shield of Faith and notebook page about the tundra region.

He also illustrated The Swing by Robert Louis Stevenson and drew a dinosaur from instructions in Draw and Write Through History. He thought his dino's head was too small, but enjoyed the assignment.

Cub's writing assignment in IEW was to retell a fable. He was allowed to change the characters, setting, time, add in more details, but was assigned to leave the plot the same. Right is his retelling (with embellishments :P) of The Bat, the Birds, and the Beasts (linked here, if you're unfamiliar http://www.bartleby.com/17/1/24.html). This week he also:

* Completed 3 lessons in PAC Integraged Physics and Chemistry and took a quiz, scoring a 93

*Made it through 4 pre-algebra lessons (he's almost done with this book, thank heavens)

*Completed 5 days of Bible in Sonlight's Church history, which sort of flows into the history part of this particular curriculum, along with listening in on 3 days of Who is God with Crawdad

*Did 4 days of grammar, 3 spelling lessons, finished Jane Eyre and started The Shining Company, much to his delight :)

*attended Band, 2 Karate classes, passed his Trek verses, went bowling, played the piano at home and in lessons, and suffered through a bit of Latin

The boys were asked to notebook a "God sighting." They both chose the two times God showed us bears in the month of September. I couldn't agree more. Definitely God moments there. :)

Above is the fort from the outside. Below is the fort, Crawdad included, from the inside. :P Yes, he is doing his math in there.

This week, Crawdad also:

*Played catch-up with some experiments in his Apologia fish book, along with reading about and notebooking 4 days of the tundra for science in Preparing, which we started up this week

*Completed....quite a few....lessons in MUS Zeta. He is determined to make it into the pre-algebra book by Christmas break. I'm fairly certain he's going to do it.

*Read 4 days in his Bible independently, worked through 3 days of Who is God with me, and did 4 days of Preparing, which is very much Biblical history in the beginning since it is an overview of history and therefore starts at Creation. We also read 3 days in Adopted by Indians for California history.

*Read 4 lessons in BJU reading, did 4 days of grammar, 3 days of cursive, and completed one creative writing assignment. Creative writing is not his bent, we discovered. :P

*Finally got to hear the end of the story of Grimalkin and his boy Benjamin, did a little Latin, beat me in bowling (Taz whipped us all, but she had bumpers :P), passed his AWANA verses, took 2 Karate classes, went to piano lessons, and worked on relearning to play his french horn with braces.

Reading in her favorite outside chair

His opinion of my comment that he had gotten boring to document (and thus the institution of last post's crazy hats)

Playing the sneaky, snacky squirrel game with her cuddly friends. I think Lightning McQueen won. :P

Camping out on my bed with his school work because he and his brother could.not.stop chatting during school, and I didn't want to still be schooling at bedtime. :P
