Just Regular School Again

After our wonderful camping trip to Bryce Canyon, and a not-so-wonderful week of battling some rather unpleasant colds, this week we are back up and running with our regular school days.

Above, Crawdad uses a balloon inside an empty water bottle to demonstrate how pressure deep in the ocean affects our lungs. As you squeeze the bottle (simulating the pressure of the ocean in deep water), the balloon (representing lungs) becomes smaller--just the way our lungs would be crushed if we dove too deep. To the right is what happens when Crawdad over-pressurizes his ocean, shooting the bottle cap across the room and popping the balloon partway out. Being Crawdad, he had to draw a face on it and make it into a critter. I love that kid. :) Below, he is using small, personalized fans to create surface currents. He also liked sticking the edge of the fan in the water and creating a mess. Silly boy. :P

This is Taz's new perch. She has decided she absolutely loves sitting on top of the chest freezer next to the math table to do, well, pretty much everything. Above, she's coloring. Right, cutting and pasting. Below, sorting rhyming words on to the correct mat. As I believe I'm the one who first tossed her up on a counter top to color while I worked in the kitchen, I really can't say much. :P

I teased him that since he has gotten older and so much of his work is now seatwork that he does independently, he's really pretty boring to document. He decided to remedy that with "crazy hat of the day." My goofy teenage boy. :)

Cheese thief!! :)

Helping Mama cook. She thinks she needs a chef's hat, which I don't own. She decided a pot holder would do. Whatever works, kid.

Reading assignments are best done on the couch. :)

Poor baby. His cold gave him nosebleeds, which he is prone to with allergy season anyway. Nothing like a nose full of tissue to add to the insult of having to read a girly book like Jane Eyre.

Right, making a collage for art in Little Hearts for His Glory, which she started this week and is LOVING. I have to say that while I adore Heart of Dakota, this has not been my favorite program in previous years. The boys just didn't get into this one, but wow--Baby Girl is having a ball with it. Below, math on her perch. :)

Crawdad doing the independent history box in Preparing. He's notebooking a dinosaur.

And this one I included just because she's cute. :)
